Stick zither

Last update : May 18, 2021

This zither on stick (proak) consists of a bamboo body, two metal strings and five pegs. The two steel strings are tuned with two bamboo pegs. Only the string closest to the neck is plucked, the other serves as a drone. The gourd resonator is open at the base. This opening is placed against the musician's chest and is sometimes moved away to change the sound intensity.

This zither used to be played solo to accompany the songs, to wake up the guests of the house, to rock the children, to embellish the shelling of the rice.
